Tulsa Area United Way announced a slightly increased goal for its 2011 fundraising campaign Tuesday morning.
The $24,556,573 goal is $489,022 increase over the previous years.
“As we prepare for this year’s campaign we are both optimistic and realistic. There are plenty of opportunities in our sights. We have found that as our economy continues to improve, the people and companies of Tulsa come through with generosity and giving spirits,” said Jim Bender, senior vice president and general counsel for Williams and the 2011 campaign chairman.
“We feel this goal will provide our 61 partner agencies with the necessary resources to meet the increased need for critical services in the Tulsa area,” he said.
Last year’s goal was $24,067,551, an amount that was surpassed during the fundraising drive.
Nearly 150 volunteers spent more than 5,000 hours during the past five months assessing the needs funding requests from the 61 partner agencies and determining the best investment strategy, said Dan Ellinor, senior executive vice president of Bank of Oklahoma and 2011 Tulsa Area United Way board of directors chairman.
In the last 87 years, the Tulsa Area United Way has invested more than $590 million in the Tulsa area.
The organization provides services to more than 630,000 people through its 61 partner agencies in Creek, Okmulgee, Osage, Rogers, Wagoner and Tulsa counties.
