Excessive heat warning declared for Tulsa County

The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning until 8 p.m. Tuesday for Tulsa County.

Other counties under the warning include Creek, Okfuskee, Wagoner, Rogers, Pawnee, Washington, Osage, Pittsburg, Sequoyah, McIntosh, Muskogee, LeFlore, Latimer and Haskell.

According to the weather service, heat index values in these areas are expected to reach 105 to 110 degrees this afternoon and Tuesday. Overnight temperatures in the mid-70s to mid- 80s are not expected to provide much relief.

In addition, a heat advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday for Cherokee, Adair, Mayes, Delaware, Ottawa, Pushmataha, Choctaw, Craig and Nowata counties.

Heat index values are also expected to reach 105 to 110 in these areas, according to the weather service.

Highs in the 100s are forecast once again for Tulsa this week, with 103 forecast for today; 102 forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday; 105 forecast for Thursday, and 104 forecast for Friday, according to the weather service.

Some relief is possible, as a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms is forecast for Tuesday night and Wednesday.

Tulsa had two days reach the 100s in June, and seven of July's first 10 days reached the 100s. The all-time record for most days reaching the 100s in a year is 59, set in 1934. The all-time record for most days in the 100s for July is 27, also set in 1934.

Tulsa recorded 0.01 of an inch of rain Sunday, bringing the month's total rainfall to 0.13 of an inch. This is nearly 1 inch below normal for July so far, according to the weather service.
