Bishop Kelley got behind early against OKC McGuinness on Friday night at Angelo Prassa Field and couldn't recover, as the Comets fell 35-17.

The Comets struggled in the passing game and turnovers hindered a comeback attempt in the second half.

But it was McGuinness that looked unstoppable at the end of the first quarter, recording three touchdowns in the final six minutes. Irish quarterback Camden Tharp connected on a 33-yard touchdown pass with 5:58 in the first quarter to put McGuinness on the board first.

Comets' quarterback Donovan Walton mishandled the snap on Bishop Kelley's following drive, giving the Irish the ball on their own 29-yard line.

Tharp capitalized on the good field position with another touchdown pass, this time to Danny Krenger.

Bishop Kelley turned the ball over again on its next possession, when Irish defensive back Drew Neuberger intercepted a deep Walton pass.

McGuinness followed with another score when running back Jacob Lewis found the end zone on a 10-yard run.

It looked as if the Comets would make a comeback in the second quarter, with the defense holding the Irish out of the end zone. Comets' quarterback Hunter Martin led his team to its first score on a 14 play, 75-yard drive, all on running plays.

Martin found the end zone on a 1-yard quarterback sneak to make the game 21-7. The Comets added a field goal with 32 seconds left to bring the score to 21-10 at the half.

The Comets scored the first points of the second half on an Austin Morris touchdown reception, but it would be the last points Bishop Kelley would score. Momentum shifted when a Comets fake punt was unsuccessful on their next drive.

McGuinness once again used the good field position to its advantage, when Konarik recorded another touchdown reception. He added another late in the fourth quarter to make the score 35-17.

The Comets' next game is 7:30 p.m. Friday against Coweta at home.
