Broken Arrow's Kristin Chenoweth talked career and, unusual for her, politics on CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight" on Wednesday.

At one point, Morgan asked the actress her views on tea party candidate and self-proclaimed Christian Michele Bachmann's and others' views on gay marriage and gays in the Army.

"You know I'm a Christian, too," said Chenoweth, a star of stage, screen and television. "Unfortunately, nowadays to say that word it's almost like 'Uh, really? Are you crazy?' ... So a goal of mine and a purpose of mine in this life is to make people realize that we're are not all (the same) ... Just like if you are Muslim, there are many kinds of Muslims.

"I am a Christian, and I would call myself conservative in some ways and not so conservative in some ways," she told Morgan, which was reported on piersmorgan.blogs.cnn.com

"And I don't think the gay issue is a political one, but I do think it's a civil rights issue," she said. "I believe as a woman, as a Christian, as an actor and as an artist that people who love each other should be allowed to be married, and I know that doesn't go along with what Mrs. Bachmann and everybody that proclaims that, but that is why I believe," the Tony and Emmy award winner told Morgan on the show.

She also told him: "If it was a sin to be short, what would I do? Well I'd be right on the hell bus ... I believe that's the way God made me, and I don't believe God makes mistakes, and that includes a person's sexuality."

Chenoweth, who will star in ABC's new primetime drama series "Good Christian Belles" this winter, was also twice Emmy-nominated for her role as April on "Glee," and has starred on Broadway ("Wicked") and in films including "Deck the Halls," "Four Christmases" and "Into Temptation."
