Below are five teams that have recovered from 0-3 starts and are in strong contention for a playoff berth going into the final three
weeks:
Booker T. Washington:
The defending 5A state champion Hornets (3-4) had a three-game winning streak snapped last week, but are likely to finish at least in third place in 5A-3, thanks to a strong defense led by linebackers Jarvis Hinson and Michael Evans, and defensive back Carsie Jones.
Enid:
The Plainsmen (2-5) set
a school scoring record in
an 80-57 win at Bixby last
Friday. Enid is tied with
Sand Springs for the fourth
and final playoff slot in
6A-4 although the Sandites
hold the tiebreaker edge
due to a victory over the
Plainsmen.
Glenpool:
Coach Steve Edwards’
Warriors (4-3) are a perennial
state title contender
and are returning to top
form, led by quarterback
Jake Ramos. They received
a boost from tailback Alton
Adkins’ return after he
missed the first two games.
Glenpool is tied for the
4A-2 lead with Harrah.
Muskogee:
The Roughers (2-5) have
shown major improvement
throughout the season
under first-year head coach
Josh Blankenship. They are
tied with Southmoore for
the final playoff slot in 6A-
4, but hold the tiebreaker
due to a win over Southmoore.
Webster:
Coach Don Gibson’s
Warriors (2-5) started
0-4, but would be in the
playoffs for the first time in
this century if the season
ended now as they are
in fourth place in 4A-4.
Garrett Griffith is emerging
as one of the metro’s top
junior quarterbacks and
Jak’ii Moore is a standout
receiver-defensive back.
