Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden and wide receiver Justin Blackmon and Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones are three of 15 national semifinalists for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, it was announced today.
Oklahoma State is the only school in the nation with two players remaining in contention for the award.
Weeden and Blackmon are two of the key forces behind the Cowboys ranking second in the nation in both scoring offense and passing offense and ranking third nationally in total offense.
Weeden has emerged as one of the best quarterbacks in the nation in 2011. He has the Cowboys in the No. 2 spot in this week's BCS standings with a 10-0 record and leads all BCS automatic-qualifying conference quarterbacks with 3,635 passing yards and 31 touchdown passes. Weeden has gotten stronger as the season has worn on, completing 67-of-83 passes (.801 pct) for 925 yards and nine touchdowns in the last two games alone.
The reigning Biletnikoff Award winner as America's best wide receiver, Blackmon is one of only two wide receivers on the list of Walter Camp Award semifinalists, joining Clemson's Sammy Watkins. Blackmon leads the nation with 14 touchdown receptions, is third nationally with 93 receptions and is fifth nationally with 1,142 receiving yards. Over the last three games, Blackmon has 32 catches for 480 yards and six touchdowns. He has found the end zone in 21 of his last 22 games.
Jones had led OU to an 8-1 record. He has passed for 3,349 yards this season with 28 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
A list of five finalists for the Walter Camp Player of the Year award will be announced Nov. 30 and the winner will be announced Dec. 8 during the 6 p.m. edition of ESPN SportsCenter.
