Union runner Alex Monaghan followed in his brother's footsteps Wednesday, signing with Oklahoma State cross country.

"My brother runs there right now, so they (coaches) were always talking to him about me and getting to know me more through him," Monaghan said. "Him running there really got me the connection with them and also to other schools."

His brother, Taylor, is a junior at OSU, so they will run together next season. Their parents were glad they wound up at the same school.

"They don't have to buy a bunch of new clothes now," Monaghan said with a laugh. "They can just wear the same stuff."

Monaghan, an All-Metro selection last season, has been running since the seventh grade and is thrilled to become part of an elite program. The Cowboys have won four straight Big 12 titles and two national championships in the past three years.

"It's real nice to have a school that good this close to home," Monaghan said. "I really don't want to go that far away for college, so it worked out perfectly."
