Roland man sentenced for role in 1-year-old's death

A Roland man has been sentenced to four years in prison for the shooting death of a 1-year-old girl during an apparent robbery attempt.
According to the Times Record, a Sequoyah County judge handed down the sentence Thursday to Devin Jeremiah, agreeing with recommendations from a jury that earlier convicted Jeremiah of shooting with intent to kill. The jury had acquitted Jeremiah of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Elaine Keene.
Prosecutors said Elaine was strapped in her carseat in a car driven by her mother and two other men who allegedly tried to rob Jeremiah. Prosecutors said Jeremiah fired his gun at the car and a bullet struck Elaine in the head.
The two men in the car accepted plea deals. The girl's mother awaits trial.
