The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has awarded the Tulsa Metro Chamber a five-star accreditation, making the local organization one of only two nationwide to receive the top honor this year.
Tulsa now is one of nine metros of 500,000 people or more across the United States to carry the five-star distinction. It also is the third-largest metropolitan area, behind Chicago and Orlando, Fla., to have a five-star accredited chamber.
"The Tulsa Metro Chamber is predominantly one of the strongest in the nation and an industry leader," said Mike Neal, president and CEO, in a written statement.
To achieve accreditation, a chamber must demonstrate quality programs, clear organizational procedures and effective communications by meeting minimum standards in its operations and programs, including areas of governance, government affairs and technology.
This latest honor follows others. In 2010, the Tulsa Metro Chamber set an American Chamber of Commerce Executives record when it was named the nation's best chamber organization for the third time in five years. It also won in 2006 and 2008. The winner cannot repeat in consecutive years, but the Tulsa chamber earned the award in three back-to-back years of eligibility.
The other accreditation went to St. Tammany West Chamber of Commerce in Covington, La.
