OKLAHOMA CITY - More than 60 Oklahoma National Guard soldiers arrived here Tuesday morning, bringing the total returning this week to nearly 300.
Another large group of soldiers could come home later this week as more and more go through the demobilization process from deployments in Afghanistan and Kuwait.
"I'm just happy to have him home," said Margie Akehurst of Broken Arrow, after hugging her son, Spc. Dustin Akehurst.
Most of the soldiers who returned today were from the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team's 1st Battalion, 179th Infantry Regiment of Stillwater and 45th Brigade Support Troops Battalion of Norman.
About 3,000 members of the 45th were deployed to Afghanistan and Kuwait last summer. Almost half are either in a stage of the demobilization process or have returned to their families.
