The TARE board has spoken and made its recommendations to the City Council. There are some very bad problems. This system will encourage many more midnight dumpers with their bags full of grass and leaves to drop them off on others property. That will be followed by Code Enforcement citing individual property owners or forcing them to clean up the mess. The city needs to get a fleet of trucks and clean up this mess rather than forcing others to do so. There also will be appliances thrown out.

Our city will slowly become a public dump. The last 10-15 years we have had a system that kept these things off public and private land by hauling green waste and bulky items for free. Now we will revert to an inferior system that will encourage illegal dumping and dumping in business dumpsters, which is illegal also.

There also appears to be a provision for twice a week pickups for additional fees. We all thought that everybody would be on a once-a-week schedule. Again, it's a case of the haves and the have-nots.

The city councilors should amend this proposal to include city pickup of things dumped by illegal dumpers. Along that line, fines should be increased tenfold with more penalties for items thrown from vehicles.
