DEL CITY — The brother of a 22-month-old girl who died earlier this month from injuries consistent with child abuse told police his stepfather would punch them both in the stomach and knocked the girl down a flight of stairs a week before she died.
Roderick Lamont Jackson, 34, was charged Tuesday with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Nkya Cargile. Police said the girl suffered numerous injuries, including a skull fracture, bleeding on the brain, old and new rib fractures, multiple hemorrhages to the right eye and abdominal trauma.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Jackson told police he was with Nkya on April 2 at an apartment at 4812 Kristie Drive when he walked into the bedroom and found her unresponsive on the floor. He said the girl had fallen off a table and he attempted to perform CPR on her.
