Letter to the Editor: Really?

In a March 23 letter, "Why the hoo-hah?" Jean Conway writes, "In the Old Testament, a verse states, 'And Abraham let his seed fall upon the ground.'"
Careful examination of Genesis 38:7-10 will clearly show that it was not Abraham who spilled any seed. Conversely, verse nine states that it was Onan, son of Judah. Why? Because Onan didn't wish to carry on his deceased brother's lineage. The kicker of this account appears in verse 10, "And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also."
Contraception controversy notwithstanding, would it not be wise to first research a subject before using it to make a point?
