Lawrence (“LuLu” or “Double L”) Hurst, 74, of Tulsa, OK passed from this life Tuesday, April 10, 2012 in Tulsa. He was born March 1, 1938 in Coal Hill, Arkansas the son of Gus and Elizabeth (O’Brien) Hurst. He graduated Coal Hill High School in 1956. After settling in Tulsa he entered the Tulsa Fire Department C adet Academy January 1966 and retired as a Driver May 1995. He was a member of the Retired Fire Fighters Association and enjoyed working outdoors, tending his garden, carpentry, and repairing anything that needed it. He was preceded in death by both his parents; sisters, Augusta Williams and Midge Smith; and brothers-in-law, Pete Williams, L.B. Smith, Don Lovett and Earl Walker. His survivors include his wife of nearly 50 years, Jane Hurst of Tulsa; sons, Shawn Hurst and wife, Pam of Aubrey, Texas, Brian Hurst of Tulsa, and Patrick Hurst and wife, Jacqlyn of Tulsa; sisters, Martha Lovett of Catoosa, Frances Barros and husband, John of Owasso, and Wilma Walker of Altus, Arkansas ; brother, Leon Hurst and wife, Linda of Locust Grove; granddaughters, Kaitlyn Hurst of Tulsa, and Sadie and Madelyn Hurst both of Aubrey, Texas; grandson, Parker Hurst of Tulsa; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Heart Association. A funeral service is scheduled for 12 pm, Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Winnetka Heights Baptist Church (1003 W. 49th Street, Tulsa, OK). Rev. Todd Ragsdale will be officiating.
