What a chief executive makes often depends, of
course, on how big his or her company is. Some keep it
quiet, but publicly traded companies are compelled to
list all executive compensation on proxy statements in
advance of annual shareholder meetings. These figures
include base salaries, stock awards, incentive plans,
pension contributions and other financial rewards.
Some of these business leaders, such as Norman
Asbjornson at rooftop heating and cooling unit maker
AAON Inc., started their companies, while others
worked up the corporate ladder or were hired away
from competitors. One listed here, Laredo Petroleum’s
Randy Foutch, started smaller private energy producers
and decided to take his last one public. All top executives
are relatively well compensated, but the range
is surprisingly wide.
Here’s a look at a few CEOs from publicly traded
companies based in Tulsa.
| EXECUTIVE Title, Company | 2011 total compensation |
| NORMAN ASBJORNSON president, AAON Inc. | $447,510 |
| STANLEY LYBARGER CEO and president, BOK Financial Corp. | $2,907,012 |
| JOHN GIBSON CEO and chairman, ONEOK Inc. | $8,236,241 |
| RANDY FOUTCH CEO, Laredo Petroleum Holdings Inc. | $3,942,368 |
