Two University of Oklahoma institutions - the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art and the National Weather Center - are collaborating on a new national juried art competition.

The National Weather Center Biennale will be the first such event, focusing on depictions of weather in art. Entries in the competition, which has a total prize purse of $25,000, will be accepted beginning April 22.

The competition is open to artists of any nationality age 18 or older. Artists may submit up to three works in any combination of painting, works on paper or photography.

Entry fee is $25 for the first piece and $10 for each subsequent entry. Registration closes Oct. 1.

Artists selected for the exhibition, which is scheduled to be shown April 22-June 2, 2013, at the National Weather Center, will be notified in late 2012.

One $10,000 Best in Show award will be presented, along with $5,000 awards for the top entries in painting, photography and works on paper.
