A Tulsa couple were arrested and charged Tuesday in the alleged abuse and neglect of a 6-year-old boy.

The boy’s stepfather, Jessie Denton Roach, 49, is accused of inflicting physical trauma on several areas of the boy’s body, including extensive wounds to his head and forehead, police said.

He and the boy’s mother, Delores Roach, 28, are also accused of failing to provide medical care for his injuries and failing to provide proper nourishment and food, Tulsa County District Court filings show.

Police were alerted to the boy’s condition by hospital personnel on April 12 and subsequently took him and two siblings into protective custody, a detective said. The 6-year-old boy weighed less than 35 pounds at the time, according to court documents.

Jessie Roach is charged with child abuse by injury and two counts of child neglect, Tulsa County District Court filings show. Delores Roach is also charged with two counts of child neglect.

Jessie and Delores Roach remain in the Tulsa Jail. Jessie Roach’s bail is set at $150,000, and Delores Roach’s is set at $100,000.
