Democrat Rob Wallace raised almost $184,000 in the first three months of 2012, far more than any other contender in the wide-open 2nd Congressional District race, according to Federal Election Commission reports filed late Sunday.

"It is clear my message of creating jobs, giving working men and women a stronger voice in Congress, and taking eastern Oklahoman common sense to Washington is resonating," Wallace said in a release.

Wallace raised more than any nonincumbent and was second only to 3rd District Congressman Frank Lucas, a Republican, in overall fundraising. He said the number of donors was as important as the dollar amount.

"This race isn't about money or who can write the biggest check," he said. "It is about putting together a coalition of people that want to change the attitude in Washington."

Wallace's donors include former Gov. Brad Henry ($500), former state attorneys general Drew Edmondson ($2,200) and Mike Turpen ($250), University of Oklahoma President David Boren ($500), the American Association for Justice ($5,000) and the United Steelworkers ($5,000).

Wallace also received $13,343.45 donated through the website ActBlue.

Wallace's primary opponent, Wayne Herriman, raised $62,785 during the period and reported $256,325.65 in cash on hand. Wallace has $224,125.79 on hand.

A third Democrat in the race, Earl Everett, has not yet filed a declaration of candidacy with the FEC.

The six Republican 2nd District candidates reported total receipts of $335,617.39 during the quarter, led by Markwayne Mullin's $114,598.72.

Mullin's total does not include a $5,000 refund.

Republican incumbent John Sullivan far outdistanced the other three candidates in the 1st District, reporting $155,725 for the quarter and $701,145.55 in hand.

Sullivan's GOP primary opponent, Jim Bridenstine, reported $78,021.12 for the quarter and $56,672.15 on hand.

Democrat John Olson raised $29,480 and has $20,596.14 on hand.

Independent Craig Allen has not filed with the FEC.

Lucas reported net receipts of $235,650.88 in the first quarter, of which nearly $160,000 came from political action committees. Lucas, with four challengers this year, has $701,145.55 in cash on hand.

Fourth District Congressman Tom Cole, also a Republican, has the largest bankroll - $856,407.39.
