Spicy spirits kick up the flavor

I am not a fan of the Bloody Mary. Love tomatoes, love spicy stuff and I'm not at all opposed to vodka. But all three together?

Then again, I haven't given it a try since I was introduced to the chili rita last year. Kim Michie at Wild Fork offered me a sip of hers a little while back - an addictive concoction of fresh grapefruit juice, tequila and a dash or two of Sriracha hot chili sauce, all shaken in ice, then strained into a salt-rimmed martini glass before being dusted with chili powder. It's awesome!

Now, it's one of my top three all-time favorite drinks, albeit hard for many establishments to make because (1) not all of 'em have fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice and (2) not all of 'em have sriracha.

But last week, I had dinner at Elote and ordered the Caliente, the restaurant's house margarita with a splash of their chili-infused tequila. It was fabulous! Even had a little chili pepper floating in it.
