WAGONER -- A man who is accused of raping two older women last fall in Wagoner is in custody, Police Chief Bob Haley said at a news conference Friday.
Earl W. Campbell, 46, of Enid is being held in the Garfield County jail after recently being arrested in a separate case there.
DNA evidence was used to obtain an arrest warrant for Campbell in two attacks in Wagoner County, Haley said.
Wagoner police are asking prosecutors to pursue counts that include first-degree rape and burglary.
On Aug. 2, a man entered the home of a 71-year-old woman and held her at knifepoint, taking money after forcing her to empty her purse, authorities have reported. The robber then sexually assaulted her.
On Aug. 17, a man sexually assaulted a 63-year-old woman in her home in the southeast part of town, police reported. Before leaving, he took her the wallet, which had cash in it.
In both instances, the man entered the homes through unlocked doors, and his face was partially covered.
