Letter to the Editor: Help starts early
BY Tiffany Smith, Tulsa

I have lived in North Tulsa all my
life; for as long as I can remember
McLain High School for Science and
Technology has been on the at-risk
list. I am passionate about education
and I wish you could hear my passion
in this email.
The issues at McLain are not its
own. The issues start nine years before
students ever enter McLain. If
students don’t have a solid foundation,
it is hard for them to succeed in
school. In order to help McLain, you
must go back to the elementary level.
The school system starts its effort
to help McLain at Penn, Gilcrease,
Whitman, and Hawthorne. Only
when a solid foundation is achieved
will students soar.
