Arson is suspected in fires that destroyed two vacant houses in Tulsa early Tuesday, firefighters said.

Firefighters responded to the first fire about 2 a.m. in the 6300 block of North Cheyenne Avenue, Fire Department spokesman Stan May said.

Investigators later found evidence that someone might have started the fire, he said.

The second fire was reported about 5 a.m. in the 800 block of North Waco Avenue, where evidence indicated that someone had broken into the house's back door and tried to break through the garage door, May said.

The house appeared at first to be occupied, but investigators later learned that it had been vacant since at least January, May said.

The fire likely was started on or near the porch and spread into the attic, he said.

Investigators considered both fires suspicious but did not immediately rule them arson, he said.
