Tulsa was picked from 500 cities in the United States as No. 6 for most affordable vacations, according to quality of living site Livability.com.

Site editors winnowed the list to destinations that offered both value and variety and that appeal to both families and single vacationers, the official site said.

The top 10 cities were also ranked by quality and quantity of unique, free activities both indoors and out.

Louisville, Ky.; Minneapolis; and San Antonio were tapped as the top three. Tulsa, the nation's 46th largest city, is "a haven for musicians and artists, stunning architecture, and around-the-clock family entertainment," site editors said.

Livability also cited the area's multiple free and reduced-admission parks and museums, and Connor's Cove at Hardesty Regional Library, which made the site's Top 10 Libraries list. The Cove includes a 420-seat, nautical-themed arena.
