Rachel Leonard's senior year at Jenks High School has flown by, and she's savoring every bit of what's left of it.
The 18-year-old graduates May 21.
She's found herself reminiscing recently about her time at Jenks, where she's been attending school since fourth grade. Her involvement in the school's film program influenced her to study advertising and broadcast media in college. And her pride in Jenks' football program led her to a university with an exciting football atmosphere of its own: the University of Oklahoma.
We spoke to Leonard about how she's spending her last days as a high-schooler, as well as her hopes for the future.
What are you ... feeling as the big day approaches?
The nerves haven't quite hit me yet, but I'm sure they will get here before the big day is over.
... planning after graduation?
Next fall I will be attending OU. Surprisingly, it was the only college I applied for, but when I went for a college visit, I automatically knew where I was supposed to go.
... tweeting about these days?
The majority of my tweets have to do with being a senior. I already started a countdown till graduation that I tweet. This past weekend I tweeted a lot about my senior prom. However, the majority of my tweets talk about the bad case of senioritis I came down with this year.
... putting up on Facebook lately?
My Facebook is filled with pictures from my senior experience. From my senior trip to prom, I am documenting and posting my favorite parts about this year on my profile.
... going to miss most about high school?
I will definitely miss my friends next year. Some of them are going to OU, but the majority will be scattered across the country at different colleges. I definitely get sad every time I think about being apart from everyone.
... most grateful for?
I am grateful for my family and friends. I don't know how I was blessed with the coolest friends that have impacted my life forever. Also, nothing can top the support I have gotten from my family throughout my high school experience.
... doing to prepare for graduation?
There is a classic routine every senior goes through. It starts with senior pictures and ends with graduation announcements. Filling and addressing tons of envelopes is time-consuming, but I am eager to get the news out about my graduation.
...going to do to celebrate?
Right after graduation I am going to Gradfest (a school-sponsored event) to celebrate. I have been looking forward to Gradfest since I was in middle school.
