Thank you for the article of the roots of poverty in this state by Associate Editor Janet Pearson ("Pernicious roots," April 22). She mentioned that the Five Civilized Tribes brought slaves with them when they were relocated.
In this state, with one of the largest Native American populations, its two main universities are named for two groups, OU Sooners and OSU Cowboys, that even displaces them further within their new homeland. They too are subject to this day to these pernicious roots.
