More flooding expected in northeast Oklahoma

Heavy rains Sunday and Monday is expected to swell rivers and creeks in northeast Oklahoma, with still more rain forecast for the region Monday afternoon.

Flood warnings are in effect for Osage, Washington, Nowata, Rogers, Tulsa and Ottawa counties for several rivers that run through them.

Occupants of three homes near Burbank in Osage County were rescued by boat as the water rose Monday, according to the National Weather Service. County roads in the area were impassible.

The Red Cross said Monday that it had been assisting emergency workers responding to the flooding in and near Burbank. According to the Red Cross, emergency management said approximately 12 families have been evacuated.

The Department of Transportation closed Oklahoma 18 north of Fairfax due to flooding in the area.

The Caney River near Collinsville is expected to crest at 27 feet -- a foot above flood stage -- by Tuesday afternoon, according to the weather service. The river is also expected to surpass flood stage near Ramona.

Funnel clouds were reported to the National Weather Service in Osage County as storms rolled through northern Oklahoma on Sunday night. No tornado touchdowns were reported, but several large trees were blown over, according to the weather service.

Monday’s forecast calls for a 50 percent chance of storms in Tulsa with a slight chance forecast for Monday night and Tuesday. The forecast for the rest of the week is mostly sunny with highs in the upper 80s.
