Michigan, Missouri and Tennessee were among schools that had offered a scholarship, but wide receiver Marcell Ateman told Scout.com on Wednesday night that he has committed to Oklahoma State.
As a junior last season at East High School in Wylie, Texas, Ateman totaled 67 catches for 1,047 yards and 10 touchdowns. At 6-foot-4 and 190 pounds, he is rated by Scout as a four-star national prospect.
Ateman expressed his OSU commitment during separate calls to coach Mike Gundy and offensive coordinator Todd Monken. Ateman reportedly had gotten offers also from Washington State, Virginia, Texas Tech, Purdue, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Iowa State, Baylor and Arizona.
Ateman is the third member of Oklahoma State’s 2013 commitment list. Previously announcing OSU commitments were Jack Kurzu, an offensive tackle from St. Louis, and Fred Ross, a wide receiver from Tyler, Texas. Ross also is rated a four-star recruit.
Verbal commitments are not binding. Recruits may sign national letters of intent in February.
