Ralph Winter, a producer behind such motion picture blockbusters as four "Star Trek" movies and three "X-Men" movies, will be the commencement speaker at Saturday's graduation ceremonies at Oral Roberts University.

ORU's commencement is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Mabee Center. The ceremony is free and open to the public.

Winter can speak to his success as a producer in Hollywood since 1984, when he moved from Paramount Pictures' TV productions to the film division as an associate producer on "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock," featuring the original "Star Trek" cast.

The continuing success of that film series led to him serving as executive producer on "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home" and "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier," and then as producer of "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country."

Winter went on to produce comedies like "Captain Ron" and "Hocus Pocus" as well as Disney adventure movies like "Mighty Joe Young" and "Inspector Gadget." He then returned to the science-fiction genre in the last decade with the rising popularity of movies based on comic book titles.

Since 2000, Winter has produced "X-Men," "X2" and "X-Men: The Last Stand" while at 20th Century Fox studios, in addition to Tim Burton's "Planet of the Apes" remake and both of the "Fantastic Four" movies.

Winter's films have grossed more than $2 billion at the worldwide box-office. He is also a founding partner in a company that produces commercials for beverage brands and automakers, and he is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Winter, 60, is married and has two children.
