I am a recipient of rescue by EMSA paramedics Kelby Nichols and Lisa (Ables) Alexander.
They helped me escape my car after I was trapped by flood waters one early and rainy morning as I left St. John Medical Center, where I am an ER nurse.
I dearly respect the folks at EMSA, not only because I work with them daily and see their consistent and effective efforts in saving lives and supporting the community, but also because two of their finest helped save me that night. I was scared, in danger and needed immediate help. They were there for me. I am so grateful for them!
Nichols and Alexander received a statewide award for their act of bravery in my rescue. They recently were nationally recognized in Washington, D.C., with the prestigious Star of Life Award.
What an amazing honor it is to have EMSA as part of our community. We are blessed to have such a dedicated and competent team of emergency rescue workers available to us.
Editor's note: Nichols and Alexander along with 70 other EMS professionals from 30 states and the country of Trinidad and Tobago were honored April 29 in Washington, D.C., in the Stars of Life Celebration, according to an April 29 Tulsa World story by reporter Amanda Bland, "Tulsa medics to receive national award."
