Many of the Tulsa area's most talented and respected musicians are pulling together to support the Greenwood Cultural Center, 322 N. Greenwood Ave.
More than 50 artists will perform at Tulsa We Funk: Eldredge Jackson, Billy Bruner, Arthur Thompson, Tammy Hamilton, Lester “Doc” Shaw, Frankie Cole, Party People Incorporated and James “Honey B” Jones will join hosts Bobby Eaton and local news anchor Latoya Silmon. Chris Terrell will DJ.
Showtime is 7 p.m. May 25, and tickets are $15 in advance, available at Ralph’s Menswear and the Greenwood Cultural Center. Tickets will be $20 at the door. The show is all ages.
The event was organized by longtime Tulsa community activist Eaton after the Oklahoma Legislature cut the center’s funding, forcing the center to cancel its children’s programs, he said.
“When I heard about the financial challenges of the Greenwood Cultural Center, I knew in my heart I had to do something.”
Also a former bass player for Natalie Cole, he reached out to his friends and fellow musicians and invited them to participate, he said.
For more information, call the center at 918-596-1020.
