BROKEN ARROW - Low-point beer at the Farmers Market will be a new offering at this year's Rooster Days festival, but activities at Central Park still promise to be family-friendly.

Wes Smithwick, president of the Broken Arrow Chamber of Commerce, said the Chamber is excited to introduce the new Entertainment Pavilion, located at the Farmers Market, 418 S. Main St.

The new facility will feature live music including Mary Cogan and Midlife Crisis, food and low-point beer from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and noon to 11 p.m. on Saturday.

"Adding low-point beer sales to Rooster Days this year was in response to adult patrons' feedback and in an effort to provide the same drink options as other festivals in the Tulsa area," Smithwick said. "As always, the safety of our residents is a top priority, and ample security will be at Rooster Days, including the Entertainment Pavilion."

While activities at the Pavilion are geared more toward adults, the carnival and other Rooster Days events are held separately about one mile down the street at Central Park, 1500 S. Main St., Smithwick said.

City Attorney Beth Anne Wilkening said at a City Council meeting earlier this month that alcohol on city property was originally prohibited, but there are now exceptions which allow vendors to get a permit. Businesses in the designated arts and entertainment district on Main Street are exempt.

"Most of those businesses have valid permits anyway," she said.

Councilman Johnnie Parks said he wasn't opposed to low-point beer sales but wanted to make sure it was only sold in a designated area and wanted to hear feedback from police following the event.

The carnival will have an assortment of rides, including kiddie rides. Mega passes can be purchased for a discount until 10 a.m. Friday at area businesses. They are $5 higher if purchased at the event.

The fun run starts at 6 p.m. Friday followed by the 5K run/walk at 6:30 p.m.

The parade on Main Street starts at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Roy Clark will be in concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center. For tickets, go to tulsaworld.com/bapac
