EARLSBORO — Fire officials say a vacant historical building in Earlsboro was destroyed by a controlled burn.

No injuries were reported in the fire on Wednesday.

Fire Chief Shane Rawls told the Shawnee News-Star that the blaze began in an area next door and spread to the two-story structure, which he says was likely built in the 1920s. Crews from Tecumseh and other area towns helped Earlsboro firefighters keep the flames from reaching other structures.

Jay Mize says his father leased the downstairs part of the building to store feed for his family's store, J&J Grocery. Mize also said the Masonic Fraternity used to hold meetings there.
