Leonard Harold “Hal” Brown MD, 90, of Tulsa passed from this life May 8, 2012 in Tulsa. He was born January 24, 1922 in Muskogee the son of Benjamin and Margaret (Heppen) Brown. He attended St. Joseph’s Academy as a child and graduated Northeastern State College in Tahlequah before attending and graduating from the University Of Oklahoma College Of Medicine in 1945. Hal served his internship in Boston, MA before enlisting and serving as a Captain in the US Army Medical Corp. He completed his medical residency in orthopedics at Wayne University in Detroit, MI, his general surgery residencies in St. Louis, MO and Boston, MA. He practiced general surgery with his brother, Dr. Irwin Brown in Oklahoma City until he left to serve his plastic surgery residency in Norfolk, VA. Dr. Brown practiced plastic surgery in Tulsa until his retirement in 1997. He was very active in the American College of Surgeons and a life member of the Oklahoma State Medical Association. In addition to his private practice as a plastic surgeon he spent numerous hours with patients at the Hillcrest Hospital Burn Unit. He also donated his time and talent at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester removing tattoos from prisoners who were getting ready to be released to give them a better chance at obtaining jobs when they rejoined society. He was an extremely compassionate and caring man who was loved by many. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; and brothers, Spencer H. Brown MD, Benjamin H. Brown MD and Irwin H. Brown MD. His survivors include his longtime companion, Joan Egger and her family of Mannford; sister-in-law, Dolores Brown of Oklahoma City; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. A rosary was held 7 pm, Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at St. Catherine Catholic Church and a funeral mass is scheduled for 9 am, Thursday, May 10, 2012 also at St. Catherine Catholic Church, 4532 S. 25th W. Ave. Burial is scheduled for 6 pm, Thursday, May 10, 2012 in the Waverly Cemetery in Waverly, MO.
