A woman who told police she was tired of being "pimped out" was arrested early Tuesday on an accusation that she shot her boyfriend at their home, Tulsa police said.
Jilma Kimberly Lara, 38, is accused of shooting Steve Peterson in the back about 3 a.m. as he tried to run from her in the 11800 block of East 22nd Street, an arrest report shows.
Police said she had tried to wake him that morning but that he told her to leave him alone and she grabbed a gun and left the bedroom. When he followed her out, she began firing, police allege.
He turned and ran but was hit once, the report says.
Police said Lara called authorities for help and told them that she shot Peterson out of rage because she was tired of being "pimped out."
Peterson was found in the bedroom on his hands and knees and was taken to St. John Medical Center in critical condition.
The couple's 7-year-old son, who was also in the house, was unharmed, police said.
Lara was booked into the Tulsa Jail on complaints of shooting with intent to kill and domestic assault with a deadly weapon. She is being held without bail.
Lara pleaded guilty April 11 to misdemeanor counts of engaging in and soliciting prostitution in a case in which she was accused of touching a man inappropriately at a massage business she ran from her house, records show.
