The Women's Leadership Council of the Tulsa Area United Way recently hosted a series of panels and discussions at the OU-Tulsa Schusterman Learning Center Founders Hall.

A panel on mentoring included Carmela Hill of Williams Cos., Thamara Barthelus of Arvest and Angela Byers of Byers Creative.

Council chairwoman is Alison Anthony of Williams.

Hill led participants in development exercises, and the afternoon also included "speed networking," in which participants used their new skills to get to know each other and develop mentoring relationships.

During the event, council committee member Cassie Reese of Crossland Construction Cos. shared a list of top 10 networking tips.

There were also booths set up for several TAUW partner agencies, as well as Leadership Tulsa and Tulsa Young Professionals, offering information for women about networking and mentoring.

Among the nearly 300 registered guests were members of the WLC steering committee, including Anthony, Barthelus, Byers, Reese, Jessica Hargis, Rachel Hutchings, Tracy Kennedy, Suzanne Kneale, Angela Kouplen, Caron Lawhorn, Mandy Leemhuis, DeLee Lewis, Michelle Riddell and Annie Tomecek.

In the past 88 years, the TAWU has invested more than $618 million in the Tulsa area. It provides services to more than 630,000 people annually through its 61 partner agencies in Creek, Okmulgee, Osage, Rogers, Wagoner and Tulsa counties.
