Letter to the Editor: No one helped

Recent articles in the Tulsa World and elsewhere reported that there are many high-paying jobs available, but not enough people properly educated to fill them. Oklahoma legislators are short-sighted to suggest that cuts be made in education so they can reduce or eliminate taxes. Businesses are not usually motivated by fewer taxes, but are more concerned about the education and quality of life in the community.

I've been around long enough to remember when everyone expected to pay taxes and help educate those who could not otherwise pay for college tuition. They knew it would keep tuition lower and create a stronger middle class, which has more purchasing power, and students didn't come out of college with huge debts from student loans. Today's attitude of "take all you can get and let everyone else fend for themselves" helps no one.
