One of the keys for Holland Hall to return to Southwest Preparatory Conference title contention after slipping to 1-9 last year is keeping tight end-linebacker Zach Rogers healthy after he was injured for most of 2011.

Rogers, who is 6-foot-7 and 230 pounds, had eight catches for 117 yards and one touchdown last year after having 20 receptions and seven TDs in 2010 when the Dutch went 10-1.

Tulsa, Lehigh and Holy Cross are among the colleges recruiting Rogers.

"He's really gotten stronger and we look for him to have a great year," Dutch coach Tag Gross said.

Jake Fox is the frontrunner in a quarterback battle with two other juniors, Cooper Gross and Jon Werthen. Fox had two games where he passed for three TDs and two games of passing for more than 200 yards.

The Dutch's defense will be led by a strong linebacking corps that features Bridge Craven, Jordan Meicke, Cory Taylor and Rogers. Other defensive standouts include linemen Larry Goode and James Eaton.

"In 2001 we went 1-9 and the next year we went 7-2," Gross said. "We have the potential for that kind of turnaround. We had a very talented sophomore class last year that was put into the fire a little earlier than we had hoped and we hope that experience will pay off."
