CBS, the No. 1-rated broadcast television rated network, announced a fall schedule Wednesday with only four new series and major moves for some of its hit shows.
The new shows are "Elementary," which is a contemporary take on detective Sherlock Holmes in New York City with stars Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu; "Vegas," a drama inspired by the real-life story of a sheriff and a real mobster battling for control of 1960s Las Vegas, starring Dennis Quaid and Michael Chiklis; the legal drama "Made in Jersey" with Janet Montgomery as a first-year lawyer from a working-class background trying to make it in Manhattan; and "Partners," a comedy about two very different lifelong best friends and business partners, played by David Krumholtz and Michael Urie.
"These new series feature a great range of bold concepts, rich characters, big stars and fresh faces," Nina Tassler, president of CBS Entertainment, said Wednesday at the network's upfront presentations in New York City.
"From a new take on Sherlock Holmes to an epic battle for control of 1960s Las Vegas to a working-class point of view in a prestigious law firm, the dramas each have a unique style and sensibility. And our new comedy 'Partners' fits perfectly with the CBS Monday night tradition of relationship comedies with a lot of heart and humor."
She is also said to be considering five other comedy pilots that the network has in development.
In other changes, "2 Broke Girls" moves to 8 p.m. Mondays, "Two and a Half Men" jumps to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays behind the network's highest-rated show "The Big Bang Theory" at 7 p.m., "CSI: New York" is set to kick off Friday prime at 7 p.m., and "The Mentalist" relocates to 9 p.m. Sundays.
The other returning series include "How I Met Your Mother," "Mike & Molly," "Hawaii Five-0," "NCIS," "NCIS: Los Angeles," "Survivor," "Criminal Minds," "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," "Blue Bloods," "48 Hours Mystery" and "The Good Wife."
"Undercover Boss" will return at midseason joined by a new reality series called "The Job" from executive producers Mark Burnett and Michael Davies, plus the new drama "Golden Boy" and the new comedy "Friend Me."
Canceled are "CSI: Miami," "Rob," "Unforgettable," "NYC 22" and "A Gifted Man." Negotiations for the return of "Rules of Engagement" are said to be still under way.
