THE BUFFET

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa

777 W. Cherokee St., Catoosa, 918-384-7800

Food:

Atmosphere:

Service: Self-serve food (servers bring drinks)

(on a scale of 0 to 4 stars)

Breakfast 7-10 a.m. Monday-Friday, 7-10:30 a.m. Saturday-Sunday ($8.95); lunch 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday-Friday ($10.95); brunch 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday-Sunday ($10.95); dinner 4-10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday ($17.95), 4-11 p.m. Friday-Saturday ($23.95, includes prime rib, seafood); accepts all major credit cards.

The stations are themed - Mexican, American, barbecue, Asian, Italian, dessert - so world-class eaters can take a culinary trip around the world, if they are so inclined.

Firm peel-and-eat shrimp with a mildly spicy cocktail sauce was a smooth way to get things rolling, and then I jumped right to the American station where I picked up fried coconut shrimp and a piece of fried chicken to go with ribs and pulled pork from the barbecue area.

I skipped desserts in favor of root beer floats in a frosted mug. Soft-serve would not be my first choice for a float, but it was fine here with all three choices - sharp root beer, classic root beer and orange cream soda - from POPS in Arcadia. The floats were worth the extra pounds I carried out of there.
