performs upgrades and
heavy maintenance on its
fleet of nearly 900 aircraft,
making it one of the largest airplane maintenance bases in the
world. The maintenance base near Tulsa International Airport
has operated since 1946 in a former Douglas Aircraft hangar
used to manufacture aircraft for the war effort during WWII.

The facility, which employs hundreds of mechanics, engineers

shuttles and the International Space Station. The company’s
Tulsa presence started in 1962 when North American Aviation
opened a Tulsa facility, which was later acquired by Boeing.
Boeing spun off the Spirit Aerosystems division in 2005.

opened its bus manufacturing
plant in Tulsa in 2001
at the former site of a Douglas Aircraft hangar used to make
bomber airplanes during World War II. To date, the site has
produced more than 100,000 buses, pumping out 50 to 75 a
day that carry children to and from school. The company also
makes vehicles for military and private business.
