University of Tulsa President Geoffrey Orsak and his family have an interesting plan to get to know the school's students immediately -- by spending the summer in the school's dormitories.

On June 27 -- four days before Orsak becomes the school's 18th president -- the family will move into a third-floor dorm apartment close to the school's work-out facilities.

Orsak said he toured the apartment Monday morning and talked to maintenance workers who were getting the space in shape for his family.

"Apparently, there were some pretty spirited kids who lived there before," he said with a laugh.

The Orsaks will probably live in the dormitory for much of the summer, while the school determines where it wants his permanent residence to be, he said.

Being among the TU summer-term students will be a great opportunity to gauge their thinking about the school and the city, he said.

The three most telling spots on an university campus are its library, its food court and its dormitories, Orsak said.
