Oral Roberts University issued a statement Monday morning that the university is mourning the loss of former men’s basketball coach Dick Acres. The statement said Acres died last week.

Acres, who coached ORU from 1982-85, was the last coach other than Scott Sutton to lead the team to an NCAA Tournament appearance. Acres guided a 21-10 ORU team to the NCAA Tournament in 1984.

Acres won 58 percent of his games in three seasons and led ORU to a Midwestern Collegiate Conference championship in 1984.

Acres’ sons, Mark and Jeff, played for him at ORU. Mark and Jeff rank among ORU’s top 10 all-time scorers.
