En Fuego to be revived at south Tulsa site

Tara and Greg Hughes, owners of the In the Raw restaurants, have announced they will bring back En Fuego, an upscale Mexican eatery they operated in Brookside from 2002 to 2005.

Greg Hughes said a three-story former office building across the parking lot from In the Raw South, 6151 S. Sheridan Road, will be torn down, and En Fuego will be constructed on that site.

"I always regretted closing En Fuego in Brookside," Greg Hughes said. "I didn't stick with it quite long enough.

"We will bring back many of the old favorite dishes from En Fuego, and because we are on a hill out here, the new restaurant will have a rooftop bar. We also will have more parking to serve both restaurants."

Hughes said he hopes to get the new En Fuego open by next spring.

Junkyard Dawg changes name to Gnarly Dawg

Perhaps you have noticed driving by 6011 S. Mingo Road that what formerly was called Junkyard Dawg now is Gnarly Dawg.

The name was changed because of a trademark issue, according to a restaurant spokesman, but ownership and menu are still the same.

Gnarly Dawg, as the name implies, is a gourmet hot dog shop featuring 15 sauces and spreads, 14 toppings, five cheeses and seven condiments.

It also has preset dog combos, such as the Reuben - with bratwurst sausage, Thousand Island dressing, sauerkraut and shredded Swiss cheese - and the Bada Bing, with Italian sausage, marinara sauce, grilled onions, grilled peppers and shredded mozzarella cheese.

The restaurant also has chili, fried bologna sandwich and Cuban sandwich.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday-Saturday.

Spudder announces new dinner-only hours

The restaurant offered lunch service during the past six months.

It is located at 6536 E. 50th St., about a half block east of Sheridan Road.

The burger dog combines a sliced Vienna beef hot dog with a steakburger inside the same bun.
