Larry Forrest ("Sad commentary, June 25) said that if a Christian really has faith, he should drink poison and play with poison snakes. He quotes Mark 16 as his ammunition.
He says Jesus envisioned every Christian church would have gallons of poison and dozens of venomous snakes on the premises. At the start of each service, the faithful would knock down a few shots of strychnine and shout, "Praise the Lord and pass the rattlesnakes." He says this would not only be pleasing to the Lord, but also make church not so boring.
Matthew 4:7 says, "It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God." If I'm sitting in my recliner and I want something to eat, unless I get up and go get it, or someone brings it to me, guess what? I'm going to starve to death. The Lord gave most people the brains to know they have to get up and go get it, or if they aren't physically able, they can get someone to get it for them.
The Lord can provide the food, but he ain't going to feed me. Forrest just proves the devil is still alive today and tempting people. As for me, I have faith in the brains the Lord gave me, and guess what else? I use them.
