Sandra Day O'Connor and Anthony Kennedy were appointed to the Supreme Court by President Ronald Reagan. Both were known to be potential "swing voters," meaning that even though they were thought to be conservative, they could swing to the liberal bloc on certain issues.
Now we have a new "swing voter," Chief Justice John Roberts, appointed by President George W. Bush. Last week, he voted with the liberal bloc on "Obamacare" and the Arizona immigration law.
I am disappointed with Chief Justice Roberts, but if in his mind he is voting to uphold the Constitution, I respect his intent.
It baffles me that we never hear about a liberal justice being considered a possible "swing voter." Do they always put politics ahead of preserving the Constitution?
