Defensive backs Brodrick Brown of Oklahoma State and Tony Jefferson and Demontre Hurst of Oklahoma are among 65 players on the preseason watch list for the Bednarik Award, presented annually to the top defensive player in college football.

Brown was a first-team All-Big 12 selection last season and was one of 15 semifinalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, presented annually to the nation’s top defensive back. Brown received All-America honors from the Associated Press (third team) and SI.com (second team).

Jefferson, a former Big 12 defensive freshman of the year, was an honorable mention all-league performer last season, when he led the Sooners with four interceptions and ranked third with 74 tackles.

Hurst was chosen second-team All-Big 12 by league coaches last season. He led the Sooners with 11 pass break-ups in 2011.
