Owasso man charged with golf course burglary, DUI

Charges were filed Friday against an Owasso man who is accused of breaking into a golf course and joyriding in golf carts with several minors.

Dustin Samuel Proffitt, 34, was charged with child endangerment, driving under the influence of alcohol, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, second-degree burglary and joyriding, according to Tulsa County District Court records.

The charges allege that Proffitt broke into the Greens golf course at 14000 E. 83rd St. North about 1:30 a.m. July 4 and, with six children between the ages of 8 and 16, went joyriding in golf carts.

He's accused of driving a golf cart on a public road while intoxicated, endangering his 8-year-old passenger, the charges state.

Single-vehicle crash fatal to McAlester motorist

A McAlester woman died early Saturday after a one-vehicle crash in Pittsburg County, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Audra Honel, 27, was driving a 1997 Ford Explorer eastbound on the Oklahoma 9A exit ramp from U.S. 69 just before 1 a.m. when she failed to negotiate a curve, troopers reported. She overcorrected, driving off the road to the left, then overcorrected again, driving off the right side of the road and rolling the vehicle 2 1/2 times, and was ejected from the vehicle, according to the OHP report.

Honel was transported to McAlester Regional Health Center, where she was pronounced dead, troopers reported.

According to the OHP report, Honel wasn't wearing a seat belt, and alcohol might have been a factor in the accident.
