Letter to the Editor: Get the facts

I want to thank Owasso Councilors Charlie Brown and Patrick Ross for listening to the citizens of Owasso and having the courage to vote no, and not be bullied by the Wal-Mart corporation or the "big bucks" that come along with it. I was very disheartened to watch and listen to city staff misrepresent zoning practices.

I have lived in Owasso for 17 years and always felt that the city acted in the best interest of all. It now is apparent that this current city staff and the Owasso City Council are more interested in money over the well-being of their citizens. "It's just too much money to pass up," Councilor Chris Kelley said.

What did the residents of Windsor Lake ask for?

1) The same zoning (office light) provided to our neighbors along 96th Street North to the east in Pleasant View and Nottingham, only between Sam's and the neighborhood (a standard zoning practice).

2) To use the frontage road along U.S. 169 as the only access points into the commercial area (the purpose of a frontage road is to serve commercial establishments).

I'm writing this to encourage those residents yet to come forward who believed that the city was a good steward and would follow its own zoning and building practices. Don't make the same mistake I did and trust your city leadership; get the facts and act quickly. I did not get the facts early enough and now have to pay the consequences.
