The city of Tulsa Board of Adjustment voted 2-1 Tuesday to deny a city application to modify a previously approved site plan so it can construct new amenities at Franklin Park.
The meeting drew a large crowd, many of whom arrived believing the city was asking the BOA to approve demolition of structures at the park.
But Carolyn Back of the Board of Adjustment stated early in the meeting that the only issue before the board was a request to modify the site plan -- not a request to demolish structures at the park.
Demolition of the structures was approved years ago, Back said.
The modified site plan called for demolition of the community center and pool, replacing them with a water playground, a multi-purpose sports court and a large pavilion with seating.
City officials said after the meeting that demolition of the pool and rec center will go on as scheduled, and that they plan to meet with neighborhood residents to come up with a different improvement plan for the park.
The park is located at 1818 E. Virgin Ave.
