Severe thunderstorms possible this afternoon

From the Tulsa World weather blog: What are "popcorn storms" and why is the Tulsa area experiencing them during the summer?

Tulsa and parts of northeastern Oklahoma received some rainfall this afternoon, with more possible later today.

According to the National Weather Service, Tulsa received 0.06 of an inch of rain today as of 2 p.m.

Tulsa has a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon, with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms tonight, mostly before 7 p.m.

Not including today's rainfall, Tulsa has received 1.32 inches of rain so far in July, which is more than an inch below normal rainfall for this time of the month.

A heat advisory is in effect for counties in east central and southeast Oklahoma.
